Milind Soman does some ‘light exercises’ with mudgar; know more about it

Milind Soman, recently declared COVID-19 negative after a 14-day quarantine period, remained committed to his exercise routine despite the isolation measures. Throughout his quarantine, the actor and ironman athlete, known for his advocacy of a healthy lifestyle, provided regular updates on his well-being, even acknowledging moments of low energy.

During this time, Milind Soman, accompanied by his wife and workout partner Ankita Konwar, continued his fitness regimen, showcasing a video of himself engaging in arm training with a mudgar or mudgal, a type of gada or heavy mace. In the shared video captioned “Trying some light exercises with a mudgar,” the 55-year-old demonstrated various movements with the weighted implement.

The video features Milind Soman holding the mudgar in his right hand, moving it behind his head and then bringing it back in front of his chest. The routine is repeated before progressing to another set of exercises involving a circular motion in front of his body.

Mudgar training, also known as Indian clubs, serves to enhance muscle training, grip strength, and shoulder strength. The weighted clubs contribute to improved joint flexibility and are particularly beneficial for athletes and those engaged in combat sports. Beyond physical benefits, mudgar training aids in developing coordination and focus, requiring practitioners to concentrate on movements, footwork, and rhythm.

Moreover, mudgar workouts contribute to building core strength, thereby enhancing cardiovascular fitness. It is crucial to incorporate warm-ups into the routine, and controlled mudgar training under expert guidance is recommended, especially during the recovery phase after an injury, to develop upper body strength.
